Population of approximately 18,530. The island is 12 miles long by 4 miles wide; 27.7 sq. miles.

Summer temperatures average in the mid 70's, winter average is 42. Approximately 39 inches of rainfall annually. Snowfall averages only 8 inches per year.

Bainbridge Island, an incorporated city, is governed by a Mayor and a City Council and has its own police force. We also have Bainbridge Island Fire Department, staffed both by full-time firefighters and volunteers.

There are three elementary, one middle and one high school on the Island and numerous pre-schools and day care centers are available. In addition, there are several private schools in the region.

Most working residents are employed in professional, retail, service or government positions in Seattle. In addition to the retail/service businesses on Bainbridge, there are a number of light manufacturing firms including a winery, office furniture, marine trawler equipment, fishing rods, toys and local food processing. An industrial park is located on Day Road. A great many Islanders operate home businesses and we have a high percentage of artists, writers, and craftspeople, some nationally known.

Bainbridge medical facilities include Virginia-Mason Clinic as well as many private doctor's, dental and chiropractic offices. Harrison Hospital is in nearby Bremerton. For medical emergencies Airlift Northwest delivers patients within minutes to Harborview Medical Center or Children's Orthopedic Hospital. Convalescent centers, nursing and assistant living homes are available on the Island as well as a state-of-the-art health center for all ages.

Most denominations are represented: Assembly of God, Baptist, Buddhist, Catholic, Christian Science, Episcopal, Foursquare, Lutheran, Methodist, Mission Alliance and Presbyterian. There are several non-denominational congregations.

Real estate on Bainbridge is assessed on a six-year schedule with annual updates. Taxes fluctuate due to special levies, actions of local government entities and changes in property values. Long and short term moorage is available at several Bainbridge marinas, and other boat launchings are located throughout the Island. Overnight moorage is available at the City of Bainbridge Island, pier at Eagle Harbor. Anchorage buoys are available at Fay Bainbridge State Park.

Two state parks offer small boat launching ramps and cook sites. One, Fay Bainbridge State Park, also offers campsites and showers. Two golf courses (one private, one public) and a public swimming pool are available. The Bainbridge Island Park District offers extensive programs for children and adults and operates numerous park facilities.
